Send a Child to camp fund 2020

Understanding the Send a Child to Camp Fund
The Harbor Playhouse "Send a Child to Camp Fund" provides camp scholarship assistance for students wishing to attend. These funds will support children whose families may not otherwise be able to afford a camp experience. It is funded solely through donations.
How scholarships are awarded
Through a formal application process, HP selects campers to receive funding based on need. Once that has been narrowed down, we award scholarships to campers on behalf of the HP, "Send a Child to Camp Fund."
Emphasis is placed on children from financially disadvantaged backgrounds
Every child experiences some summer learning loss—the loss of skills learned during the school year resulting from a lack of organized learning during the summer. Children whose families are not struggling financially have more opportunity to participate in camp and other educational programs during the summer to help their minds stay sharp. Harbor Playhouse believes children whose families are financially disadvantaged should have the same opportunity. Our "Send a Child to Camp" scholarships help children from financially disadvantaged backgrounds to constructively learn independence and safe risk-taking, build essential mentor relationships, and reap the benefits of connecting with the artistic/theatre community.
WHAT IS CAMP ABOUT & WHY SHOULD I SUPPORT?
MISSION
Young People’s Theatre Camp exists to:
CREATE extraordinary theatre experiences that aim to educate, challenge and inspire young performers in a professional venue. YPTC encourages performers to think critically and work collaboratively.
FOSTER an appreciation for theatre as an art form and theatre as a community. Instruction will be geared toward empowering each child as they grow into their own as performers while emphasizing the importance of being part of an ensemble.
ENCOURAGE leadership and responsibility beyond the stage, ultimately cultivating the next generation of active, passionate citizens and art advocates.
Young performers will embark on a one-week intensive journey that will cover all the essential elements required to create, rehearse and perform a musical.
YOUNG PERFORMERS WILL
LEARN about the audition process and how to appropriately select and prepare pieces that will best represent their personality and abilities.
DISCOVER what kind of performer they are, what style they gravitate towards and how to market their strengths while recognizing and working on their weaknesses.
COLLABORATE with children of all ages, levels of experience and socioeconomic backgrounds to create one idea that celebrates our differences and the diversity in our community.
TRAIN with counselors, staff and directors who work in the field professionally, support children’s theatre and recognize the need for its presence in Corpus Christi.
