Spring Classes 2012

Harbor Playhouse Spring Break Intensive:

March 12 - March 16: Learn what it's like to live the actor life from the moment you wake-up! This crash course explains creating a character and the process it takes to fully understand the life of actors and to be one. This class includes a performance at the end of the session! (Please provide your own lunches.)

  • Monday - Friday: 9:00am - 5:30pm

    1 Week Course (2nd through 12th Grade)

    $250 per student

Ages 2-6

Focus - Exploring the arts through music, movement, visual arts and dramatic play, and fostering creativity and imagination. Each class session focuses on a different theme such as shapes, animals, the body and more. Multisensory play promotes a child's development of social and motor skills and strengthens the bond between caregiver and child.

  1. Musical Fairytale
Working together we will combine stories and music in a new way. We will sing songs that tell a story, find stories that need a song, write our own songs, and learn how to create a musical "soundscape" for the characters, action and events of a story, a poem, or a scene from a play. Learn to express yourself through music while building a foundation in storytelling.

    Tuesdays 11am-12pm 2/21 - 4/24 • $220

Grades K-3

Focus - On the essentials of storytelling - combining disciplines (drama and movement) (drama and music) - as well as techniques of improvisation and story sequencing (beginning-middle-end). Classes would stimulate increased focus and concentration, learning to listen and work in a group as well as expressing mood through vocal and physical exploration.

  1. Wooah! And oops!
This class will explore different ways for the voice to tell a story. By using emotion cards and vocal technique cards the voice will start to learn its full potential. Should the voice sound joyous or sinister? Should the voice sing loud or should it sing smoothly? Should certain moments be spoken instead of sung? These are all questions this class will ask of its students while keeping core singing values in mind, such as breath support, pitch, and articulation. For those who have taken In My Musical Voice or have other vocal training and want more!

    Tuesdays 5-6pm 2/21 - 4/24 • $240

Grades 4-7

Focus - Learn to maintain freedom of expression and exercise the imagination while developing a sense of personal identity. Includes thinking outside the box, responding with creative problem solving and articulating feelings, thoughts and ideas. Students will refine awareness of and employ good vocal and physical habits, expand awareness of rhythm, tempo and pacing while responding to symbolism and imagery in scripted work (teamwork, self-confidence, active listening).

  1. Center stage!
Through an investigation of sets, costumes, props and lights, students explore their imagination while inventing new worlds and characters. Through theatre games and acting exercises, we will focus on freeing the creative spirit of each child while building a dynamic ensemble of actors. Backstage tour included (subject to availability)

    Wednesday 5-6pm 2/22 - 4/25 • $260

Grades 8-12

Focus - Reaching toward new levels of awareness, strengthening the ability to evaluate self and peers, building critical and abstract thought processes in relation to performance, and building self-reliance and confidence in their personal potential through a more objective world view.

  1. U.I.L. Competitive Theatre
Students will explore the artistry of classic theatre examining the creation of both physical and vocal character, script analysis and movement. In addition to working with the plays of Shakespeare, students will investigate the techniques of competitive theatre such as One Act and U.I.L. theatre competitions. Audition preparation (for college and professional opportunities) will also be covered.
